Marius C. van Rensburg – Value Propositions

Welcome back to Author’s Digest, we hope everyone had a great weekend! Today we conclude our interview with South Africa’s Marius C. van Rensburg, whose self-published book The Dilemma of Being Chosen (his first with AuthorHouse) was the recipient of a Blueink starred review. You can check out the first part of our interview in our Author Blogs section.

Marius, what inspired you to write The Dilemma of Being Chosen and how long did it take you to finish it?

My inspiration to write my book came from the value proposition–spiritual intelligence, hope and wisdom–I believe my book offers. The desire to want to produce something with such a value proposition was a big driving force. Having lived through many complexities and contradictions myself, I understand that all of us are often challenged to find our choosing and make sense of our context in relation to our being favored for a specific purpose. The fluctuations of life as well as its daily monotony would often bring us to places where we would ask, “If I am favored, why is my world falling apart?” “If I am favored, why does it feel as if my life is going in circles?” “If I am favored, why don’t I prosper?” Providing some level of understanding and intelligence to such ambiguities in relation to our choosing was a real source of inspiration.

In total, I would say writing my book The Dilemma of Being Chosen took a good four years, as I discarded numerous manuscripts (which I felt were not good enough), and then started all over again. I guess that’s the premium I paid for being a bit of a perfectionist.

What’s the one message you’d like to convey to readers through your book?

When we reject God’s choice for our lives, we are not rejecting God, but we are in essence rejecting ourselves–who we are, what we should do, our identity, and what we can become.

What is your next writing project?

I’m almost done working on my second book, Principles of the Battlefield.

Are there any events or promotions planned for your book?

I have a few initiatives planned for the year, but the key marketing events during the first quarter of 2017 include a book ad that appeared in the Library Journal, an article about my book in The Boksburg Advertiser (our local newspaper), and an ad in the March issue of the Forecast Catalog.

Thank you very much for your time, Marius, and we look forward to  Principles of the Battlefield.
