Dana and Amber Wall with “Emma Has A Dilemma!”

AuthorHouse welcomes Dana Wall to Author’s Digest, our first guest of 2017! Dana and her daughter Amber were inspired by their love of grammar to the self-publish their book Emma Has A Dilemma!

Author Dana Wall

Emma has a dilemma, and she doesn’t have a clue what she’s going to do about it! She gets her first F ever on an easy grammar test about nouns and pronouns. Wizard Jake appears out of nowhere when he hears her crying and is willing to help her. He is a genius at grammar and tries patiently to teach her the ins and outs of both nouns and pronouns. Will she learn in time for her make-up test? Or will she end up with a permanent F on her record? Only this glorious tale about two people from different worlds can answer that question.

We’re pleased that Dana could take a few moments to talk with Author’s Digest and our readers.

Dana, please tell us about you and your daughter.

I grew up in a family of writers, and I’m continuing the tradition by writing the Emma series with my daughter. We both love teaching and agreed to teach a different lesson (via easy grammar) in each book. I also write screenplays, and Amber is a junior at Marymount High School in LA where she’s the co-editor of The Anchor, the Marymount Newspaper.

Were there any authors who influenced your style?

Definitely Dr. Seuss. I love the way his words are often nonsensical, but are fun to say and roll off your tongue. I grew up with him and so did my daughter so we just added grammar to the rhyming.

What inspired you to write Emma Has A Dilemma? How long did it take you to finish it?

We were inspired by Amber’s 5th grade grammar tests and thought it would be fun to use these workbooks to teach children ages 4-8 to grasp grammar early through repetition.
